Quick News Bit for February |
So since all the votes are in, and everything was considered, 80% voted to keep the forums, 20% Voted to close the forums. We will keep the forums. Though number of votes was rather low for keeping them there seem to be a fair bit of people who want to keep them, and these do tend to get visits in the high numbers, so with all taken into consideration, the forums will be transferred over. There will be a fresh setup of the forum as long as all works well, so for that time, there will be closed forums, other than that though, I will try to transfer as much as possible over (Posts and such SHOULD stay, if not I won't bother switching, but I mean themes and such) Things like some of the modifications we have, that are not used will be gone, Possibly replaced with safer, other alternatives, and that is about all I can think of right now. Inactive users will be cleaned out. There are some user accounts that are and have not been in use for a long time, there are some that have a lot of posts, and those will be kept, but suspended so that the user can reactivate as they please. I don't know how well this will go over, but there will be some guidelines, so anyone active over the past 3 months or so, it will still be active, anything past 3, will be considered, and depending on the absence, an email will be sent out as a reminder and notification. By active I mean last login time. I know we have some lurkers and those will still be active, but I do encourage posting to help liven things up! That is all I care to share about the forums for now. Still planning things out. The new website has been ready for some time now. I learned from many people its never good to launch anything live cold turkey, so I have been waiting, and with a small group of people I know in person and don't visit my site much, have been testing the new site. Users look for many things when they visit a site, and I want to make sure I can offer it all up in that first sight. the first 30 seconds matter, and if your site is not loading too fast in that first 30 seconds, you have a problem. So a lot of testing such as load up time, and visibility has been taken into consideration which is the greatest factor delaying the launch. I hope to see it up sometime this month, though realistically, I can't offer a great window because I want it to be a smooth transition if possible, and I also want it to be a great experience first time seeing it. So YAY to new features! Been getting over a very terrible cold. I think I am getting better, but can't say for sure yet. One ear is still pretty messed up...this ear is always messed up though, so may just be me Thank you for your time and patience, I will note, if you see any odd test topics pop up in here that is me testing live which is something I don't do often, but may as well try ![]() Statistics: Posted by Sirby — 03 Feb 2012, 12:03 — Replies 0 — Views 12 |
THE COMCAST ARE COMING! THE COMCAST ARE COMING! |
After all is said and done, they arrived, gave us a new DOCSIS3 modem, brand new but we still have a slight issue, I will try to fix later which means it may be down for a little bit later this evening. TELL THE PRESIDENT....oh wait...I am the president... Anyway, Comcast is coming to replace our modem, because evidently it is not possible to do at a service center if you have digital voice from them as well. The station will go down between the time this message is posted, (9:35 EST) and 12:00 EST because they like 4 hour windows...I do as well. It should not take long, but some services will be affected...The station however, should be fine once they are done. Hopefully we can finally get DOCSIS3 in here and actually notice a difference in their performance. ![]() Statistics: Posted by Sirby — 24 Jan 2012, 07:34 — Replies 0 — Views 50 |
Week in News Show! [1/20 930PM EST*] |
Monday: Martin Luther King Day...Nothing happened...or so we thought Tuesday: Protest on TD Bank for staying open on MLK day...Racist or Not? Wednesday: Over 7,000 sites (including ours) went off line...Outcome? Win or Fail? Thursday: Government Closes Rapidshare? Anti Piracy act or was there a legitimate crime? Friday: Show! Lets see what the news brings us! I will be tackling all sort of things, mentioning it then tossing in my two cents worth! I want to hear from you too! I want to know how you feel about this bunch of news and what you have to say! Your participation in the forum will be required for this. Following IRC will be mind numbing enough let alone tackle it on the radio, so post here on this topic in the forums *Coverage is SCHEDULED to begin at 9:30PM EST, may actually be 10PM EST if things do not go as planned Please be here in the forums, and IRC. Request lines will not be open until I say they are open, so any requests will be tossed again! Requests with dedications will be higher priority over requests without legitimate dedications because, face it, these songs are for people, to people, and that takes priority over "I WANNA HEAR THIS SONG SO PLAY IT NOW" So lets get some action going! Be there and be ready, and remember, time is approximate! Sadly there may only be one new song, that already played tonight... Sorry! Please donate so we can get more please ![]() Statistics: Posted by Sirby — 19 Jan 2012, 20:00 — Replies 4 — Views 96 |
Station Downtime 1/19 |
There will be some station downtime this afternoon, but first I wanted to give you all a big thank you for Yesterday's Protest and your support... Also, sites being blanked out, could that be why so many of you listened to AnimeAMAZE? Last night we reached the max capacity of our server!7000+ sites went black on January 18th for 24 hours (AnimeAMAZE did 12 since that was initially what I was told) and it definitely reached everyone, and gave the people more information about what is happening with SOPA and PIPA and why it is a problem. As Internet users, you certainly would not like your websites censored, all because the MPAA and RIAA think this is the way to stop Piracy. I agree there needs to be a stop to piracy, but there are certainly better ways of tackling the problems, but the plans proposed by SOPA and PIPA are not the way to go about it, and seems politicians do not understand just how everything works...even I don't have a clear understanding of how the Internet works, but I know enough that I understand the impact this can have on the Internet as a whole of course. In other news...AnimeAMAZE will have some downtime today. Various times as a matter of fact. I can't pinpoint one exact time, but our ISP is going to be doing things in our area. They say it should not last long, so here is to to hoping. This will also give me time to clean out the area where cords become tangled I appreciate your patience and support! Keep up with Sopa...it is not over until that bills is voted NO, or the president veto's it. Statistics: Posted by Sirby — 19 Jan 2012, 07:57 — Replies 0 — Views 47 |
So about the forums...Close them, or keep them? |
So I have been thinking, and I wanted to know what everyone else thought. Question at hand is, what do we do about the forum? It is quite more so than usual lately, and it seems like kind of a waste if its not being used, right? The whole purpose of the forum was to have users engage in discussions about anime, possibly role play if we had enough people interested, and really, just a way to meet new people. I know in the past people have said other chat clients like IRC kills forums, but the truth is nobody is on IRC unless there is a live show. So if you decide to blame that for no forum activity, you are sadly mistaken, but IRC will remain alive due to where it is hosted. The forums started shortly after the website launched, and ever since, there would be some activity, then it would dwindle down, now it is down to an all time low. As a matter of fact, people who used to visit do not visit anymore, and people who used to post her on a regular basis do not anymore. I wanted to meet new people, meet new friends, and even talk to some fans, but the forums have proved to be more of a sore spot to some, and less of a fun happy radio station forum. So to relieve efforts from others, and free up some server resources, I was thinking it may be best to close the forum once our new site is transferred. But I don't care about what I think, I could be wrong, what do you think we should do with the forum? I am asking you because, this whole operation is run by you and you, personally, have a say. I like to let people know, I started to run the radio as a hobby, and with growing popularity, we began to push limits, and with the help of many, got it up to what it is now, but without you, and your input, this ship is going no where, and I take all opinions and criticism to heart and personally address it. So what do you think we do with the forums? Bottom line is, I am leaving this forum and poll up for 14 days. You vote. Simple. If we have majority vote saying Stay up, we will keep them up. Try to recruit people to join and have fun on our forum! Try to get some activity going. If we have majority vote saying "Close the forum" I will do just that, and that saves some system resources on our end, and will free up more peoples time. If nobody votes, then I will close them because that will pretty much sum up that not many visit. If there are mixed votes, We will think which is best in every ones best interest, Who will want to donate free time to check things out, and make sure things are running as they should, and who will keep order. 1 person alone can not do this, and neither can a small handful of people that come and go as they please. I will continue to host them here, but as I said, It will be every ones best interest. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and please participate! If you are reading this on the home page, please visit the forum to vote. Statistics: Posted by Sirby — 15 Jan 2012, 15:38 — Replies 11 — Views 489 |
