Sadly I studied copyright laws so much in Graphics design that the class was even tested on it to make sure we understood it all. I even found out the forms needed and stuff like that it was crazy but needed.

I was never taught copyright law in graphic design, lol. We were just told that if we used a photo that wasn't ours or given to us to use that we had to heavily modify it. Although we focused mainly on creating our own original content for classes anyways. Logos and so forth.

I actually learned more about copyright law in painting class, or at least laws in relation to imagery. It's music and video that I don't know much about. I think it's the advent of streaming content that is throwing people for a loop these days. DMCA charges on YouTube and all. Previously, only professional media outlets had access to audio/visual type recordings to use, and they understood copyright laws. Now days anybody can start up a YouTube channel and upload whatever they want without knowing a thing about copyright laws. Times, they are a changin'.

Well I was taught that as long as you don't make money off of borrowed content that you're fine
And if the owner of said media contacts you saying he/she doesn't want you to use their media then you just comply

But yeah, for a company like AA it might cause issues.

That's still treading on thin ice really. If you give credit to the contents owner, and again, not making money off it, normally the artist is either flattered and does not mind, or they can get all angry and tell you to remove their image.


Generally that's what you would do, unless the owner of the Media has written permission that expresses you can use it. For example, Stephanie Yanez let us play her music on our station. If her label someday wants us to stop playing her music, then we won't comply, we have her permission that expresses we are legally able to play her music since she is the creator of that music.

A lot of artists really like having their music on the radio because it really does help their sales. The RIAA is the problem. The RIAA wants money too, and so they rely on royaltees, fees you pay for playing music. The artists say "Let us speak for ourselves" considering the RIAA never gave the artists their share of the profits, which made a lot of people unhappy. You could ask any artists out there, it helps them.

Other than that, we comply to DMCA . You may notice that when requesting songs, that if an artists or track was recently played, you have to wait x amount of time to hear it played again.

I could go into more, but it will be fine, I got this under control with my 5+ years of experience
